Money was collected for equipment and the Colonials played their first inter-city league season in 1962. The Colonials won their first game against the Amsterdam Zephyrs (33-0) and compiled a 5-0 record that first year.
The 2010 Glove-Cities Colonials will begin their 48th year in semi-pro football making the Colonials the third oldest team in semi-pro football.
The Glove-Cities Colonials will also be returning for their second year of competition in the North American Football League (NAFL) as members of the Eastern Conference, North Atlantic Region, Empire Division, along with the Albany Metro Mallers and the Glens Falls Green Jackets.
The 12-year-old North American Football League, formerly based in Eden Prairie, Minn., is a national AAA minor league football system with four conferences made up of 72 teams playing in 40 states. The League has agreed to be acquired by the Atlanta-based NAFL Holdings, LLC, which is a partnership formed by lead investor Watermark Capital Partners, LLC with Sports Championship Management Group, Inc.
Today the Glove-Cities Colonials still make their home in Johnstown, NY and continue to play at Knox Field in Johnstown.
